Winners at the Venice Film Festival

Ang Lee’s film Lust, Caution, an erotic spy thriller set in 1940s Shanghai, won the Golden Lion award for best film.

Brian DePalma was voted best director for his docu-drama Redacted about U.S. killing in Mahmudiya in Iraq.

Two films shared the Special Jury Prize. The French film La Graine et le Mulet directed by Abdellatif Kechiche. Also, Todd Haynes’s I’m Not There, a film in which a series of actors, including Cate Blanchett, play Bob Dylan at different stages in his life.

Acting awards went to Brad Pitt for his performance in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford and Cate Blanchett for her role in I’m Not There.

Best script went to Paul Laverty for It’s a Free World directed by Ken Loach.

Italian filmmaker Bernardo Bertolucci was presented with a special Golden Lion for lifetime achievement.
