In this cold weather spell, my lips are getting dry and chapped. Here’s an easy recipe for making your own moisturizing lip balm.
Be sure to measure the ingredients exactly or you could end up with a very different product. You could also buy a pre-made melt and pour base.
Ingredients for making 8 ounces of lip balm:
2 oz. beeswax
4 oz. Shea butter
2 oz. olive oil
Combine ingredients in a glass bowl or Pyrex measuring cup. Microwave until all ingredients are melted. Mix well. Add 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of flavor oil. If you wish, add 1/2 teaspoon of coloring.
If you want to add color to your lip balm, be sure to use lip safe colorants like cosmetic grade lip safe micas. Do not use food coloring. They are safe to use but will not blend with the oils.
Only use flavorings made specifically for use in lip balm.
