Product Review: Korres Watermelon Sunscreen

Korres Watermelon Sunscreen Face Cream SPF 30

korres-sunscreenA while back I mentioned I was buying the Sephora sunscreen sampler so I could review the products for you.

This weekend I went to an outdoor party so I needed to slather up. My first choice was Korres Watermelon Sunscreen for the Face. It has broad-spectrum (UVA/UVB/IR) SPF 30 and contains no phthalates, parabens, triclosan or other toxic ingredients. Its main active ingredients are titanium dioxide and zinc oxide.

The cream has a delicious watermelon scent that is light and pleasant with no sunscreen smell at all. It is very thick but blends in easily and doesn’t look greasy. I wore it under my bare minerals foundation and powder. It lasted all day and never gave me a shiny sunscreen face.

When I got home that night and washed my face, the product came off clean and my skin felt soft. Most importantly, I had no sunburn. Sometimes, sunscreens clog my pores and I get small pink pimples on my forehead. But I had no adverse reactions to this cream.

I will definitely use it again.

You may remember last year when I reviewed 10 mascaras as part of my Mascara Wars segment, I chose Korres Deep Colour Mascara as my favorite and have been using it ever since.

Korres is an interesting company that uses natural ingredients. I have used several of its body lotions and shower gels, too. I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve tried so far. Its scents are always wonderfully subtle and the prices are reasonable. Korres is a company worth exploring.

I love green eye liner.

Exceptionnel de Chanel
Intense Volume and Curl Mascara in Smoky Noir, a smoldering black with a six-sided brush.
Can’t wait to try this innovative brush.

Poudre Douce
Soft Pressed Powder in Peche Caresse, a creamy peach.
You must have soft cheeks to balance the strong eye colors.

Les Tissages de Chanel
Blush Duo Tweed Effect lumination powder blush in New Tween Sienna, an earthy bronze.
I’m not into bronze powders, but I like the presentation.

I want them all.

I love pearl nail colors, and the dark red sounds great for my toes.

Reduce Workout Stress With Bath Salts

Warmer weather means it’s time to get serious with your workout routines. Soon, you will be leaving the jackets and sweaters behind and exposing your arms and legs.

Inevitably, with ramped-up workouts, you are likely to feel a few aches and pains.

Here is a warm, soothing way to ease your tired muscles. Make your own scented bath salts. It’s easy, inexpensive, and fun. They also make great gifts.

In a glass bowl mix together:

1 cup of dead sea salts or Epsom salts
1 teaspoon of glycerin or olive oil
10 drops of lavender essential oil or fragrance oil of your choice.

Add the fragrance one drop at a time until you get the desired strength of fragrance. Store in a glass jar with a tight-fitting lid. Mix or shake before use. To use, add 1/4 cup of the mixture to the running water as you draw a bath. The warm salt water will soften your muscle aches and pull toxins from your skin. The lavender oil will help you relax and smell wonderful. I like to take a salt bath before I go to bed. I wake up refreshed and ache free.

You can purchase several kinds of bath salts at Wholesale Supplies Plus. They have European Spa Salts, Dead Sea Salts and more. Or you can buy classic Epsom salts at a drug store.

To give as a gift, you can add a few drops of food coloring to the glycerin and mix throughout the salts. Tie a pretty ribbon around the glass jar.

Peach Is the New Cherry Blossom

It seemed last year that cherry blossom was the “in” fragrance.

Cherry blossoms were everywhere: in photos, in fabrics, floating from the sky in car advertisements, in fragrances.

L’Occitane, last year, introduced a whole range of cherry blossom fragrances, including perfume, bath gel, even lip gloss.

Well, this year it is peach. Peach is the “it” fragrance for 2009.

L’Occitane, of course, has a limited edition Peach Blossom fragrance line.

I even made peach soap. On my Etsy page, you can find my peaches and cream soap. I’m trying to come up with a bath product inspired by a bellini cocktail, the wonderful champagne drink made with peach juice.

To make a classic bellini, pour peach juice or peach puree into a champagne glass about 1/3 full. Then top off with champagne or prosecco. So yummy and pretty, too.

Get your peach on.

Angel Face

If you read my blog regularly, you know that I am a big fan of Bare Escentuals. One day I was watching Leslie (founder and CEO) on QVC and she mentioned that she had a Facebook page and that she befriends everyone.

So I sent a friend request and was promptly accepted. On Leslie’s Facebook page, she started talking about a pilot program she was trying called Angels. If you wrote to her, she would send you samples of her Bare Minerals foundation so you could pass the word on to your friends. I wrote to Leslie and one day a big envelope came to my home full of foundation samples with tiny little brushes. I quickly distributed the samples to my friends.

The pack included many different shades. I still have a few left and would like to share them with you. If you would like to try a 10-day sample of Bare Minerals, email me at this address and I will send you one. I have one each of the following: Light (light skin with golden undertone), Medium Tan (medium to tan skin with cool undertone), Medium Dark (dark skin with neutral undertone, and Golden Dark (dark skin with golden undertone). Select your best shade:

If you don’t see one that matches your skin tone, you can request a sample a this address:

I’m on Etsy

Don’t know what Etsy is?

It’s a place to buy and sell handmade items. I’ve been making soaps and other bath products and have put a few of my products in my etsy shop. I’ll be adding more this week.

My shop name is Blushing Rose. I named it after a character in one of my favorite books, Aristoi by Walter Jon Williams.

Click here to see what I’m selling in my shop.

Have you ever bought or sold anything on etsy?
