Mascara Wars: Day 10 – Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes

Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 Mascara

Color: Rich Black

Brush: Medium-sized brush with densely-packed stiff bristles.

Consistency: Medium weight.

Application: Goes on easily in one coat without clumping.

How It Looks: Makes lashes long, thick and dark. A little heavy.

Removal: Easy.

Reaction: Pleased but not overjoyed.

Notes: This mascara goes on very easily. But my lashes didn’t stay lifted the whole day. It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t the best of the bunch.

Mascara Wars: Day 9 – Smashbox Bionic Mascara

Smashbox Bionic Mascara

Color: Jet Black (rich black)

Brush: A full brush with spiky bristles.

Consistency: Thick but not clumpy.

Application: Works very quickly, color is deep, deep black. Brush has stiff bristles that really get in there to separate.

How It Looks: Lashes look extremely black, long and curled. Very dramatic.

Removal: Difficult. Water-resistant formula tooks several washings to remove. I washed twice with Bliss Lid and Lash Wash, then resorted to soap.

Reaction: Dazzled.

Notes: This is professional-strength mascara but it was very easy to use. Definitely a keeper.

Mascara Wars: Day 8 – DuWop Lash Venom

DuWop Lash Venom Mascara

Color: Black

Brush: A mini yet fuffy brush.

Consistency: Dry, almost powdery, with tiny fibers in the mix.

Application: Takes forever to apply, the little fibers are supposed to build up lashes but do not.

How It Looks: Lashes remained short but with deep color. The funny thing is, I sort of liked the way it looked. My lashes were not at all long, but they were extremely dark. It was like having a subtle smoky eye look.

Removal: Easy.

Reaction: Baffled.

Notes: This has been the strangest of the mascaras. I wouldn’t want this look everyday, but I wouldn’t mind switching it up once in a while.

Mascara Wars: Day 7 – Korres Deep Colour

Korres Deep Colour Mascara

Korres Deep Colour Mascara

Color: Rich Black

Brush: A slim compact pointed brush that offer great

Consistency: Medium.

Application: Goes on quick, even, smooth, and clean.

How It Looks: Long, glossy, curled, healthy-looking lashes.

Removal: Easy.

Reaction: In love.

Notes: This has been the least expensive and best-performing mascara of the bunch so far. Korres is a homeopathic formula that uses natural ingredients.

Mascara Wars: Day 6 – Urban Decay Big Fatty

Urban Decay Big Fatty Mascara

Urban Decay Big Fatty Mascara

Color: Black

Brush: A big brush full of soft bristles that comes to a point at the tip.

Consistency: Light.

Application: Goes on skimpy, lashes get heavy before they get long. In fact, they never get long.

How It Looks: Not as dramatic as the company expects. I achieved a soft daytime look.

Removal: Easy.

Reaction: Bored.

Notes: The mascara itself was a deep rich glossy black. I think it would be helped by a smaller brush that offered more control.

Mascara Wars: Day 5 – Cargo TexasLash

Cargo TexasLash Mascara

Cargo TexasLash Mascara

Color: Rich Black

Brush: A big soft brush with lots of bristles.

Consistency: Light.

Application: Goes on very light, takes a while to work up to the desired look.

How It Looks: Not very exciting. My lashes looked average, no different from any drugstore mascara.

Removal: It took two washings to get it all off. It came off in flakes.

Reaction: Underwhelmed.

Notes: This is another one of those mascaras that tries to create tuny tubes around each lash. But it doesn’t work nearly as well as Too Faced.

Mascara Wars: Day 4 – Too Faced Lash Injection Pin Point

Too Faced Lash Injection Pin Point Mascara

Too Faced Lash Injection Pin Point Mascara

Color: Black

Brush: A tiny detailed brush with great control.

Consistency: Light.

Application: Use the tip of the wand to apply mascara and the brush to separate, lengthen, define and curl.

How It Looks: Super long, curled lashes without too much of a made up look. Really nice.

Removal: Difficult at first until you understand how it works. It comes off in little tiny tubes.

Reaction: Bowled over.

Notes: Not like any mascara I’ve tried before. Each lash gets wrapped in a tiny tube of mascara that won’t smudge or run. It stays put all day. So modern.

Mascara Wars: Day 3 – Sephora Atomic Volume

Sephora Atomic Volume Mascara

Sephora – Atomic Volume Mascara

Color: Black

Brush: A round brush with comblike bristles all around.

Consistency: Medium.

Application: The comb separates the lashes with each stroke. A lot of mascara goes on very quickly.

How It Looks: They’re not kidding when they say this mascara has atomic volume. My lashes mushroomed to theatrical lengths.

Removal: I had to wash twice to get it all off.

Reaction: Wowed.

Notes: Get in and get out. This mascara goes on quickly. It’s easy to apply too much. I wouldn’t want to miss and hit my eye with that spiky comb. But the effect is dramatic.

Mascara Wars: Day 2 – Make Up For Ever Smoky Lash

Make Up Forever Smoky Lash Mascara

Make Up For Ever – Smoky Lash Mascara

Color: Extra black

Brush: Tapered brush with uneven bristles. Handle is beveled for easy grip.

Consistency: Light.

Application: Because of the way the bristles are shaped, there appears to be a lot of mascara on the brush. But it does not go on clumpy. It goes on nice and even and doesn’t weight down lashes.

How It Looks: Professional. My lashes look long, curled, and without too much mascara on them.

Removal: Easy. And it does not stain, so you can easily repair mishaps.

Reaction: Impressed.

Notes: It is so light that it does not feel like it’s working until you realize you are done and the effect is lovely.
