Some of the stars are immediately recognizable but some of them are just plain freaky. My favorites are Louise Brooks (above) and Greta Garbo (below).

Salvatore Ferragamo Celebrates 80 Years

I can’t imagine life without ever having owned a pair or two or three of luxurious Ferragamo shoes. His beautiful designs were good enough for some of the most glamorous Hollywood stars and they are certainly good enough for me.

This weekend in Shanghai, the Italian label Salvatore Ferragamo celebrated it’s 80th anniversary in the business.

Celebrities such as Christina Ricci, Jennifer Jason Lee and Melissa George were on hand for the festivities, which included a fashion show, gala dinner and performance by dancer Roberto Bolle of the La Scala Ballet. Bolle is representative for Ferragamo’s new line of watches.

Congratulations, Ferragamo.

I Want To Look Like Catherine-Zeta-Jones

Why? Because even though she’s incredibly gorgeous, she still looks like a real woman.

She has the figure of a real woman and exudes old-school Hollywood movie star glamour. Her face has a healthy glow and she always looks happy and content, like a woman who is at peace with the choices she has made in life.

Here is how to recreate one of her red carpet Oscar looks.

Foundation / Concealer: Flawless is the goal. First apply a liquid foundation all over to even out skin. Use a fine sponge to blend foundation thoroughly for a light, even coverage. Apply concealer to dark circles and imperfections. By applying concealer after foundation, you can avoid over-doing it. After you apply blush (below), dust lightly with a pressed powder. This ensures an even finish and staying power.

Blush: Dust a brownish rose powder blush with a large brush to outer apples of cheeks. Blend very well. Now apply your powder all over, and whisk away any extra with a large soft brush.

Eyelid: Cover the lid and crease in a neutral, pinkish beige.

Crease: The crease color creates the drama for this look. Apply a rich, warm wine color to the crease. As you move toward the outer half of the eye, broaden the color placement to extend above the crease, but not all the way to the brow. Continue to bring the color just beyond the outer corner of the eye, then sweep downward at an angle to trace the lower lashes just about 1/2 of the way across. Keep very close to the lower lashes and avoid getting color beyond the outer corner on the lower lashline (it can create a tired look).

If necessary, hold a pencil against your face, touching the outer corner of the eye at one end and the outer corner of the brow at the other — shadow should stay within the boundary defined by the edge of the pencil. Finally, fill the outer third of the top lid from with the crease color. Blend carefully and thoroughly.

Highlight: Use a delicate golden/apricot shadow in the entire area from the crease to the brow. Blend gently with the crease shadow. Next, put a tiny amount of the highlight color on your brush and sweep along the entire lower lashline and in the inner corners of the eyes. You can put a touch on your cheekbones for added glamour.

Eyeliner: Line the upper and lower lashline with a liquid brown liner. Keep the line thin and as close to the lashes as possible. Define the inner corners for extra glamour. Next, go back and widen the line on the upper lid, getting wider as you progress across from the inner corner to the outer corner. Blur and soften the line with a cotton swab or a soft sponge. You might want to practice this a couple of times before the actual event for which you want to create the look.

Brows: Define brows with a powder slightly darker than your hair color. Try defining only the arch, expanding from there as necessary.

If your brows are dark and full, just make sure they are well-groomed and just add a touch of gel to keep them in place.

Mascara: Use two coats of black mascara. Curling your lashes beforehand will create a bright-eyed effect. You may want to separate lashes with a lash comb when mascara dries to maximize the natural look. For extra glamour, add some individual false lashes to the upper lashline at the outer corners.

Lips: Line with a neutral rose/beige liner. Apply a coat of a nearly neutral mauve lipstick. Blot the lipstick with a tissue and apply a second coat. Repeat the process if you want to be double-sure of its staying power.
